とんつう

At Tontsuu, a yakiniku restaurant in Taihei, playful dishes range from meat grilled in large cuts to “Meat Home Run Bars” served on a stick. There are inventive options that may appeal to game fans, too, and booking for a group is one way to enjoy them.

01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Tontsuu’s menu features meat dishes whose names alone invite a closer look, including “prehistoric meat” grilled as a whole cut and “Meat Home Run Bars” served on a stick. One diner who ordered a Home Run Bar remembered not only its striking appearance but also how juicy it was; another enjoyed the substantial cuts of skirt steak and fillet in the prehistoric meat. These are dishes to share around the table when you’re in the mood for something dramatic, or when you want to add a talking point to a yakiniku meal.

Another diner reported ordering skirt steak, salted tongue, honeycomb tripe and liver for two, and finding the portions just right. Others have enjoyed the quick-seared fatty short rib, thinly sliced grilled liver, raw beef omasum and stone-pot bibimbap, making it possible to build a meal around meat and still finish with a satisfying rice dish. One review found the same fatty short rib quite rich, so pairing it with lean short rib or skirt steak may help balance the meal to your taste.

One diner particularly liked the lean short rib and went back for more kakuteki, a chunky radish kimchi. Visitors have also mentioned enjoying kimchi, meat soup and sake alongside the meat, making this a place to take your time over dinner with a drink you like.

Some guests visit for gaming meet-ups, and the restaurant is said to have game-themed dishes and autographs on display. One diner who tried the “Tower of Meat-yaku” said it was tasty as well as eye-catching. The menu can change, so check when booking if there’s a particular dish you have in mind. Tontsuu is on the 1 floor of the Kizuki Building in Taihei, and booking for a group is an option.
